Bonfires, camping, hiking and the great outdoors sound perfect in the summertime.
The only thing not fun about being outdoors is getting bug bites. If you’re like most of us you end up scratching the heck out of them. Which is not bad for your skin and can leave scars. We have a DIY natural bug repellent and the top store-bought brands. Before you head out the door, Don’t forget sunscreen.
It should be used regardless of what skin tone you have. The UV rays from the sun can penetrate all skin.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that sunscreen is applied first followed by bug spray. Remember that sun protection needs to be applied every two hours. Most insect repellents last up to eight hours.
Here are some prevention tips. First off with some natural bug deterrents.
To make this natural bug spray you will need to mix half water half vinegar in 10 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Here’s a few that are guaranteed to smell lovely: Lavender, eucalyptus, lemongrass, mint, and cloves.
Store Bought Route
These are rated the top three store-bought bug repellents. Not just any bug spray. Pick a repellent that has 20 to 30 percent DEET so that it will work on the skin and clothing. You can also spray your clothes down separately a couple of hours before your adventure.

If you have little kids or have sensitive skin try the Cutter wipes. They are kid-friendly.
Not just any bug net, Look for a camping net that contains Pyrethroid insecticide. This will be a deterrent for insects.
