Now that summer is here let’s talk about skin care! We have Some tips that you should be following to ensure the longevity and protection of your beautiful skin. Extended exposure out in the sun can really wreak havoc on your skin, hair, and eyes. Embrace some power foods in your life like walnuts & dark chocolate. They really do help a lot with your complexion.
- Drink Enough Water
During the summer nutritionists recommend drinking up to 12 glasses. Let’s not forget the caffeine rule, You must triple the amount of water you drink. 😱 Why? Hotter temperatures outside can cause internal dehydration. If you struggle with drinking enough water, in general, a study done by Harvard Research has said that 4-6 glasses is enough.
- Don’t Skimp On Sunscreen
A huge myth is that darker skin tones do not need sun protection. That is not true at all. UV rays can penetrate all skin tones regardless of ethnicity. Make sure to apply enough and to apply it frequently.
Most of us do not apply nearly enough daylight protection. For darker skin tones we recommend an SPF 30 or higher. Try an oil-free matte sunscreen, Especially if you will be in the water.

- Exfoliate Your Skin
Refresh your skin by exfoliating the dead skin cells it will help significantly with hydration. A good time to fit this into your routine would be in the mornings or the evenings before bed. Right after you need to apply some hydrating body cream or at the least some lotion. It’s been proven that makeup does last longer on an exfoliated face. This will also help with acne. It should only be done 2 to 3 times a week.
- Sunburnt skin tips (It happens)
Aloe Vera is the go-to for sunburns because it’s just a natural remedy for inflation. It also has more than 70 active helping components in the plant. Apply cold compression for any pain. Cucumbers are made of natural antioxidants and pain relieving properties. Make sure the cucumbers are chilled then blend them up to create a paste to apply to the sunburn. Coconut oil is the best thing for sunburns once they have calmed down.
Here are a couple of home remedies:
Add 2 Cups of baking powder to a bath, Add some lavender or chamomile essential oil to relieve stinging
- Baby your body with a body scrub here’s a DIY recipe we love! It is a great cleansing scrub, especially for oily skin. All you need to do is mix the following ingredients:
- Zest from 2 lemons
- A couple drops of your favorite essential oil.
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- Juice from 1 lemon
- ¾ cup olive oil
- Eat foods with skin strengthening Omega 3, fatty acids and rich in antioxidants. Consider these super foods: Berries, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots and cantaloupe, and nuts
- Take Vitamins
- Get plenty of rest
